Düsseldorf Christmas markets 2026

The central Christmas markets run for several weeks in 2026 and are made up of themed markets, including one at Schadowplatz. Opening hours are 11:00 to 20:00 Sunday to Thursday and until 21:00 Friday and Saturday, with Christmas Eve closing at 15:00. The markets stay closed on 22 November and 25 December. The tourist board lists 19 November as the start, another source says 20 November, so check shortly before you travel.

Düsseldorf Carnival 2027

The season opens at 11:11 on 11 November, when the Hoppeditz wakes outside the town hall. The peak comes in February with Weiberfastnacht (Thursday), Carnival Sunday around the Altstadt and Königsallee, and the main parade on Rose Monday. The dates here are calculated from Easter; the carnival committee announces official routes and times. Rooms and trains are much busier then.

boot is the large water-sports trade fair held on the exhibition grounds in the north. The organiser lists 23 to 31 January 2027, with around 1,500 exhibitors from 68 nations, 15 halls and more than 200,000 visitors. Rooms get tight, so book early. Opening hours and ticket prices are due to follow later, and weekdays are usually calmer.

Düsseldorf Marathon 2027

The Düsseldorf Marathon is traditionally a spring Sunday race, usually late April or early May. There is no official 2027 date yet. Road closures around the course are usual, so check travel plans once the date is published, and arrive early if you want a spot along the course; runners usually register months ahead.

Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW 2027

Japan Day is the city's big celebration of its Japanese community, held traditionally in May. The organiser reported a record of roughly 700,000 visitors in 2026. No 2027 date has been published; partner recruitment for the 24th edition opens in November 2026. Expect a Saturday, with the centre and riverbank very busy.

Largest Fair on the Rhine 2027 – Düsseldorf

16 to 25 July 2027 (per organiser information; fireworks on Friday 23 July) · Oberkasseler Rheinwiesen

The Rheinkirmes has been run by the St. Sebastianus shooting club since 1435 and sets up on the Oberkassel Rhine meadows, a festival ground of around 165,000 square metres. The tourist board lists 16 to 25 July 2027, although the page header says the 27th, so check before travelling. Fireworks are planned for Friday 23 July around 22:30, with drone shows on 20 and 23 July. Families dominate by day, evenings are busier, and the Altstadt is a walk across a Rhine bridge.
