The Tonhalle stands at the southern end of the Ehrenhof near the Rhine promenade. Wilhelm Kreis built the domed structure in 1925/26 as the Rheinhalle for the GeSoLei exhibition; a near-hemispherical concert hall was fitted beneath the restored dome in the late 1970s, and a 2005 renovation improved the acoustics. The main hall, renamed Mendelssohn-Saal in 2014, seats 1,854. It is home to the Düsseldorf Symphony and also hosts visiting acts. The Rhine promenade is a short walk away.
